The High Island Reservoir, the largest reservoir in Hong Kong with a storage capacity of 280 million cubic metres, was carved out of the sea by damming the two ends of a narrow channel between High Island and the mainland peninsula of Sai Kung. Having such a magnificent scale, the project has attracted much attention from hte engineering field. It was even elected as one of the "10 Engineering Wonders in Hong Kong" in a competition. With its east main cofferdam protected by huge concrete "Dolosse" as the highlights, the High Island Reservoir is a hot spot of outing for the public.
